For gold and ore you have in the dungeons mine carts to send it to town for future upgrades, if you don't send gold and ore back to town and die you lose it. Upon death you also will lose all items you found. If you die you spawn back in the town where you can upgrade and buy stuff and try again, for that you need the gold and ore you send to town.

The point is to try to farm as little as possible in the early game. It might seem tempting, to try to get ahead of the curve by grinding ore in the early game and saving up a little extra to get one more bonus to ease the difficulty, but simply making it one dungeon higher the hard way sees such massive increases in gold and ore loot that grinding early levels is extremely inefficient.

For a level 1 Treasury, you will reach 50% tax at 10K gold. Level 2 Treasury = 50% tax at 15K gold. Level 3 Treasury = 50% tax at 20K gold. Level 4 Treasury = 50% tax at 25K gold. What to you mean, the town progress is the same for all the party members. The host upgrades his town, which is used for the party, but the guests also get the same amount as the host and can immediatly use the ore in their singeplayer runs. The guests town gets the same amount of unlocks as the host. Only character unlocks are gated i believe. 1.
