The Macerator grinds down 1 Tin Ore into 2 Crushed Tin Ore, each of which can be smelted into a Tin Ingot, or washed in an Ore Washing Plant to create Purified Crushed Tin Ore. There's a setting in the cfg: # If true, will spawn nether ores regardless of if a furnace or macerator recipe was found. If false, at least one of those two must be found to spawn the ore. B:ForceOreSpawn=false. I checked NEI for recipes and there weren't any macerator or furnace recipes for pig iron/steel.

I'll elaborate on my usual setups: For midgame EMC, what has worked well in the past has been using some sort of grinder/pulverizer/macerator machine to grind up blaze rods or bones into their respective powders, but ONLY if it gives some sort of bonus output that you can dump the netEMC into an EMC bucket along with the blaze/bone powder.
